Gastropexies

Deep chested large breed dogs such as Dobermans, German Shepherds, German Shorthaired Pointers, and the Weimaraner, are more prone to a condition called Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus (GDV). This is a condition where the stomach bloats, and then twists on itself causing an emergency situation as blood supply is quickly shut off to the stomach and potentially other organs such as the spleen. Preventative or prophylactic gastropexies are recommended in all large, deep-chested breeds because of this risk. This can be done as a stand-alone procedure, or done at the same time as desexing. Please talk to us to find out more about this procedure and if your dog is a candidate.
